President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has strongly condemned the Danish ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina for what he called a scandalous and insulting address, stating that “if Bosnia and Herzegovina were in any way a normal country, the Danish ambassador would already be declared persona non grata tonight.”
Dodik accused the ambassador of gross interference in BiH’s internal affairs and of violating fundamental diplomatic norms, stating:
“He has intervened in the rudest possible way in internal matters, spreading untruths and insulting Republika Srpska. Such ambassadors may be favorites of the Bosniak political elite, but they are not welcome in Republika Srpska.”
In a sharp remark, Dodik added:
“I will gladly welcome the day when Greenland becomes part of the United States. Poor governance in Denmark only adds fuel to justified calls for Greenland to be handed over to America.”
The remarks came after a reception held in Sarajevo by the Nordic countries in celebration of their national holidays. During the event, the Danish ambassador reportedly used the occasion to deliver an inappropriate speech that included unfounded criticism of Republika Srpska, rather than speaking about Denmark’s national day and promoting messages of peace, coexistence, and dialogue.
Instead, Dodik claims, the ambassador used the opportunity to accuse Republika Srpska and its leadership of separatist policies, which Dodik firmly rejected as an abuse of diplomatic protocol.
