Čović on Schmidt: No one appointed him, I told him I oppose impositions

Dragan Čović, President of HDZ BiH and the Croatian National Assembly (HNS), stated that Christian Schmidt has no authority to impose a decision to resolve the crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Čović emphasized that, as it seems, no one officially appointed Schmidt.

He underlined that resolving the crisis through Schmidt’s intervention is not a viable option.

“What are we doing here then? Let them call Schmidt and let him appoint everyone—there are laws and the Constitution. Let Schmidt pass laws—why do we even need elections, the Council of Ministers, or the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH?” Čović said.

He reiterated that Schmidt was not appointed by any legitimate authority.

“The possibility of him intervening does not exist. We all need to work toward making BiH a normal country. Don’t call for any kind of imposition. I told Schmidt very clearly—we do not want any impositions. We cannot open European integration processes while having governing structures that operate outside the Constitution,” Čović told N1.
