With a ceremonial academy held today at the Youth Center in Banja Luka, the General Gymnasium of the Catholic School Center “Blessed Ivan Merz” celebrated its 20th anniversary.
During the festive program—jointly prepared by teachers and students—it was emphasized that each school year stands as testimony in itself, each carrying its own unique past and shaping this educational institution into what it is today. Guests were treated to a short film about the school, a dance performance titled “The Journey of a Drop of Water,” and an art exhibition titled “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.”
The director of the General Gymnasium of the CSC, Sanja Hajder, stated that the presented program symbolically reflected the heart and soul of the school.
“We have marked 20 years of work, growth, and dedication. Through joy, energy, and commitment, we showed what makes us a community and a school that proudly walks the path of education and upbringing. Preserving an oasis of values, while also growing and transforming, has been both our greatest challenge and strength,” Hajder said.
She thanked everyone who contributed and recognized the mission of the school.
“This anniversary is just one step along a journey that will continue. Ahead of us are many more challenges and opportunities for growth,” she added.
Addressing those present at the Youth Center, the principal of the CSC, Monsignor Ivica Božinović, recalled that in the first year the school had only 13 students and 17 teachers, and now they are preparing to proudly send off their 16th graduating class.
“We will continue striving to ensure that the young men and women leaving our nest will be a source of pride for all of us and for everyone they meet in life. May this institution live, blossom, and grow for many years to come,” said Božinović, expressing gratitude to all who support the work of the school, and highlighting especially the strong support from the Central State Office for Croats Abroad.
Banja Luka Bishop Monsignor Željko Majić also addressed the audience, stating that the CSC symbolizes unity in a special way, which was beautifully showcased through the program.
“This Catholic School Center, the only one in Republika Srpska, I compare to a candle on a lighthouse that cannot be hidden—just as the goodness and brilliance of this school, which is a shared social treasure, cannot be hidden,” said Majić.
