“Čučak Literary Encounters” in Han Pijesak

The three-day literary event “Čučak Literary Encounters” will open today in Han Pijesak, with the central evening scheduled for Saturday, May 17, when the “Čučak Book” literary award for last year will be formally presented to Igor Kalajdžija from Bijeljina for his book “Dramas.”

The manifestation will begin tonight at 7:00 PM with “Čučak’s Evening,” during which poet Bojana Arbinja from Sokolac will read her verses. The musical part of the program will feature vocal soloists Ana Todorović and Sara Golić, accompanied by Jovan Vidović on guitar, according to the National Library “Branko Čučak”, which is organizing the event.

On the second day of the literary gathering, tomorrow in the cinema hall of the House of Culture in Han Pijesak, the traditional “Branko’s Bench” will be held, with participants including students from the elementary school “Milan Ilić Čiča Šumadijski” and members of the cultural-artistic society “Saint Panteleimon.”

On Saturday, May 17, at 11:00 AM, flowers will be laid on the grave of Branko Čučak at the Bogaz town cemetery.

As part of the “Čučak’s Noon” program segment, the reading room of the National Library will host presentations of the books “The Last Night of Fra Bey Ivo Andrić” by Miroslav Janković, “Jedinosušni” by Neven Milaković, and “Under the War Umbrella” by Risto Trifković, which will be discussed by the manuscript’s editor Miljana Macan.

The central evening of the literary gathering will take place on Saturday, May 17, in the cinema hall of the House of Culture, where writer Miroslav Janković will deliver a speech about Čučak. Following him, writers Neven Milaković, Željka Avrić, Miroslav Radovanović, Aćim Todorović, and Ljutomir Rundić will address the audience.

The artistic part of the program will feature accordion professor Mirjana Učur and members of the KUD “Saint Panteleimon” from Han Pijesak.

The event is supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska and the Assembly of the Municipality of Han Pijesak.

Branko Čučak (1948–2008) was a poet, novelist, short story writer, playwright, publicist, and essayist. He lived and worked in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, and Han Pijesak, where he spent his childhood and early youth, and where he is also buried.
