Kuvaja and Karelin: Sport as a bridge of brotherhood and resistance to pressure

The President of the Center for the Development and Promotion of Sports Cooperation between Serbia and Republika Srpska, Vladimir Kuvaja, met with legendary Russian athlete, multiple world and Olympic champion, and member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Alexander Karelin.

During the meeting, Karelin described Kuvaja as a “Russian hero and a sincere friend of the Russian people,” emphasizing that it was a great honor to personally meet a man who has, for years, worked to connect the peoples of Serbia, Republika Srpska, and Russia.

“They tried to use sports to turn people against their governments — but they failed in Serbia, in Republika Srpska, and in Russia. The Russian people are great and proud, and they remain loyal to their leaders, just as we do,” said Kuvaja.

Kuvaja and Karelin both stressed that sport is one of the most powerful tools for preserving national identity, spiritual unity, and mutual understanding among friendly nations. They also announced several joint initiatives in the fields of youth sports, education, and cultural exchange.

The gathering was held in a festive atmosphere, attended by representatives of sports federations, the academic community, young athletes, and guests from the region and abroad.
