President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić stated today in Miami that during his visit to the United States, he will speak with American officials about Republika Srpska and the prosecution of its leaders.
Vučić emphasized that individuals cannot be prosecuted for verbal offenses, as is being done by Sarajevo in the cases of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandić, and Prime Minister Radovan Višković.
“You cannot prosecute someone just because they disagree with a figure imposed from the outside. That doesn’t exist anywhere—not even in a banana republic,” Vučić told Pink TV.
He admitted that he had previously made a mistake by not speaking out about Sarajevo’s role and the involvement of individuals who were in BiH during the war in the 2001 attacks on the United States.
“People from Republika Srpska have used that narrative because it resonates more with Americans. I made a mistake by not addressing it earlier. But I will always fight for Republika Srpska and for our people there,” Vučić said.
He added that in doing so, he would always respect the principles of international law, noting that Serbia respects the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also the integrity of Republika Srpska within BiH, including the powers and competencies granted to it under the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Vučić also mentioned that he discussed Republika Srpska yesterday with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and that he spoke on the topic in interviews with American media outlets.
