Jurka: Schmidt is unpopular, he should reconsider his actions

Andreas Jurka, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the Bavarian Parliament, stated that there should be an open discussion about the complete closure of the Office of the High Representative (OHR), with clear deadlines set for that closure. He emphasized that 30 years after the Dayton Agreement, there is no longer a need for such an institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he criticized the conduct of Christian Schmidt.

“The people should at least know how much longer this is expected to last, and what conditions need to be fulfilled in order to be able to govern themselves. Citizens should at least be told how long Schmidt will remain in office and what requirements must be met to be freed from this undemocratic rule,” Jurka said.

He noted that he feels a particular responsibility toward BiH because Christian Schmidt comes from a party based in Bavaria.

“We must evaluate what politicians from Germany are doing here. I must say that I understand the need for someone to organize and regulate political life after the conflict, but we must ask ourselves whether that is still necessary 30 years later,” Jurka told SRNA.

He said Schmidt’s role should be reexamined in terms of democracy, legitimacy, and his actions.

“There are reasons for criticism. I have no problem saying that. I hope Christian Schmidt will find a way to return to normalcy and prioritize dialogue instead of enforcing his authority, because he is not an elected representative of the people,” Jurka concluded.
