Kos: The EU cannot impose sanctions on the president of Republika Srpska

European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, stated that the European Union cannot impose sanctions on the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, because not all member states agree on the matter.

“Member states are not united regarding sanctions against Dodik,” she said briefly.

In an interview with Radio Free Europe, the European Commissioner referred to the opposition from Republika Srpska as a “bright spot” in BiH.

“I see hope when it comes to BiH’s negotiation process with the EU because of the cooperativeness of the opposition from Republika Srpska. For now, there are some bright spots, and that is the existence of an opposition in Srpska that is becoming more constructive, and this could lead to a breakthrough in the negotiation process,” she stated.
