An exhibition of student art and literary works on the theme of the suffering in the Jasenovac concentration camp and Donja Gradina has been opened at the Donja Gradina Memorial Site.
Awards for the best works were presented to the students by the Director of the Republika Srpska Pedagogical Institute, Slađana Tanasić, and the Director of the Donja Gradina Memorial Site, Tanja Tuleković.
Tanasić told reporters that, as in previous years, the Donja Gradina Memorial Site and the Pedagogical Institute announced a competition for primary and secondary school students to encourage remembrance of the innocent victims of the Jasenovac concentration camp.
“The goal is to nurture a culture of remembrance and memory among students, to teach them about their history in the right way, and to help them express what they learn through artistic works. The aim is to inspire them to cherish freedom, peace, mutual respect, and unity—so that no child ever again experiences the horrors endured by the children of Donja Gradina,” Tanasić stated.
Students who were awarded for their literary works read their pieces aloud, while the best visual artworks were displayed in the exhibition hall.
The competition for the best student works on the suffering in Jasenovac was conducted in all primary and secondary schools across Republika Srpska, as part of efforts to nurture a culture of remembrance within the educational system.
