“An Evening with the Favorite Book of My Life” was a heartfelt gathering of book lovers organized by the Prijedor City Library in celebration of World Book and Copyright Day. Attendees shared their favorite quotes and verses from the treasures of world literature.
For many, the event was a reminder of the lasting impact books have on our lives.
“My interests lie more in philosophical themes—something deeper, something with more substance, not the trendy things we see today,” said 74-year-old Danilo Avramov.
High school student Andrej Sredić prefers poetry, which he also writes himself.
“I brought my favorite book—a collection of poems by Dr. France Prešeren, especially his most important work Zdravljica. My favorite verse is the seventh stanza, which is now the national anthem of the Republic of Slovenia,” said Sredić.
This gathering, now in its fourth year, was organized by the “Ćirilo i Metodije” National Library in Prijedor, with the long-term goal of forming a Club of Most Active Readers.
“The idea behind this event is to reflect on the quotes and verses that marked our lives through reading—it’s not a formal program, but a moment to connect through literature,” said Gordana Vila, the Library’s director.
World Book Day serves as a reminder that, in an age of digital media and rapid information, we must not forget the enduring value of a good book.
The library currently has two open contests:
- A competition for local authors from the Prijedor region
- A literary contest for elementary and high school students in honor of City Day.
