Deputy Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers, Aleksandar Goganović, is set to embark on a multi-day official visit to the United States, during which high-level meetings are scheduled with senior officials in the fields of defense and security from the new administration in the Pentagon and the U.S. Department of Defense.
During the visit, bilateral defense consultations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States are planned.
— This will be an opportunity, during official meetings, not only to address topics from the defense system but also to present the positions of the official policy of Republika Srpska and advocate for the interests of the Serb people — Goganović stated.
The main topics to be discussed with representatives of the new U.S. administration include the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the surrounding region, as well as overall aspects of bilateral military cooperation between BiH and the United States.
— I will emphasize that the current security situation in BiH is stable and that there is no reason for concern. As evidence, I will refer to the statements of NATO Secretary General Mr. Rutte during his recent visit to BiH, as well as the official reports from EUFOR, which holds the mandate to assess the security situation and which has consistently provided a positive assessment regarding security in BiH. This also confirms the position of Republika Srpska that the situation in BiH constitutes a political crisis, not a security crisis, and that the only reasonable solution lies in dialogue among all relevant political parties with legitimate representation among the Serb, Croat, and Bosniak peoples — Goganović added.
He also emphasized that Republika Srpska received its international recognition through the peace agreement signed in Dayton, with the support of the United States and other major powers, who are guarantors of this international agreement.
— That agreement defines Bosnia and Herzegovina as a complex state composed of two entities and three constituent peoples — which represents the optimal model for BiH’s functioning — Goganović concluded.
