The book Pucari 1941–1945 by author Mirko Dimić, a testimony to the suffering of the Serb population during the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) in the Kozara region village of Pucari, was promoted this evening at the city reading room in Prijedor.
— Essentially, the book about Pucari is a book about the victims of Jasenovac. Most of the residents of the village of Pucari were killed in the Jasenovac concentration camp — Dimić explained.
He noted that the testimonies in the book are deeply moving, as they recount the suffering of people, with some standing out due to their sheer monstrosity.
— Today, it is almost incomprehensible how certain individuals ended their lives. It’s a subject so horrific that few civilized and reasonable people can truly grasp that someone could do such things to another person simply because of their ethnic, religious, or any other identity — said Dimić, a senior curator at the “Donja Gradina” Memorial Area.
He pointed out that, until now, no book had been published about the suffering of the inhabitants of such a specific micro-location as the village of Pucari.
Gordana Vila, director of the “Ćirilo i Metodije” National Library, stated that the institution has a strong collaboration with the “Donja Gradina” Memorial Area and that this is not the first time their publishing activities have been promoted.
— This is our institution’s contribution to preserving the memory of those who perished in the infamous Jasenovac camp — Vila noted.
