The Minister of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, stated that Republika Srpska, at the moment of its creation and still today, represents the best framework that has preserved the existential being of the Serb people, as well as the realization of its political and national identity.
“Republika Srpska was created through the wisdom of our political leaders on January 9, 1992, defended with the blood of our greatest heroes, and preserved by the will of the Serb people,” Karan told reporters during the commemoration of 33 years since the establishment of the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade of Republika Srpska in Zvornik.

Karan said that the marking of 33 years since the founding of the Central Detachment is an opportunity to remember that approximately 1,500 members served in the brigade, 144 of whom gave their lives, embedding them into the very foundations of Republika Srpska.
He recalled that the Special Police Brigade of Republika Srpska had nine detachments—in Jahorina, Pale, Ilidža, Šekovići, Trebinje, Foča, Bijeljina, Prijedor, and Banja Luka.
“This is an opportunity to express our gratitude for everything the members of this brigade gave for the creation and defense of Republika Srpska, and especially to honor and thank those who gave their lives—the most valuable thing they had—and forever built themselves into the foundations of Republika Srpska, remaining forever its eternal guardians,” emphasized Karan.
He noted that, at the same time, the regular police forces, together with the Army of Republika Srpska, were active during the Defensive-Patriotic War and highlighted that 782 members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska laid down their lives for the Republic.
Karan stated that 26,048 members of the police, the Army of Republika Srpska, and other units were killed in the Defensive-Patriotic War, and emphasized that the 8,994 civilian victims of the Serb people in the war must not be forgotten.
“I especially want to stress that the legacy and remembrance of their heroism is the foundation upon which we build the current and future identity of all our police officers, especially the young ones from the High School of Internal Affairs,” Karan added.
He said that it is not enough to simply train and equip a police officer, but that it is also crucial to continue developing patriotic awareness among young officers.
“This awareness is already present, as many members of the Republika Srpska police are children of fallen police officers and fallen soldiers of the Serb Army—not only them, but also the children of comrades-in-arms—who possess full ethical and human integrity, and together with the police, they help shape the kind of police officer we want to see,” Karan emphasized.
According to him, Republika Srpska is once again facing serious challenges, which require additional strength in order to preserve the Republic, its constitutional position, its state institutions, and all its citizens through political struggle.
Karan underlined that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska upholds the legacy of the Defensive-Patriotic War in which many members of the Serb people, the police, and the army perished. He added that this strength makes the ministry a guarantor of peace, stability, and security for Republika Srpska and all its citizens, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or any other affiliation.
