Karan: We will not allow the political crisis in BiH to become a security issue

Minister of the Interior of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, stated that the Ministry of the Interior will not allow the political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina to escalate into a security issue.

Karan emphasized that attempts to use the unconstitutional Prosecutor’s Office of BiH to direct police forces against each other and thus create a security crisis will not succeed.

“We will not allow that, and our response is to strengthen the Ministry so it remains a guarantor of peace and security, while respecting the laws of Republika Srpska that protect its constitutional order,” said Karan, responding to a question regarding their relations with SIPA.

He added that the task of the Ministry of the Interior is to maintain peace and security in Republika Srpska and BiH, assuring citizens that they can remain calm.

“This crisis will remain political and will not turn into a security one. The Ministry guarantees that to all citizens of Republika Srpska. That is our duty and we will fulfill it,” Karan told reporters in Banja Luka.

He underlined that Republika Srpska is absolutely not responsible for the current political crisis in BiH, placing the blame on former US Ambassador Michael Murphy and the illegitimate High Representative Christian Schmidt, who, along with the unconstitutional Court and Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, have created this crisis that culminated in the political persecution of the leadership of Republika Srpska.

“The National Assembly has responded to all of this to protect the safety of Republika Srpska and its population,” Karan added.

He also announced that, in accordance with the Law on the Protection of the Constitutional Order, a special prosecution and special court of Republika Srpska will be established to handle the most serious criminal offenses against the constitutional order.

“One of those offenses is the failure to comply with decisions of the Government, the National Assembly, and similar bodies. All employees of the Court and Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, and all individuals from Republika Srpska acting contrary to the laws of these institutions, are committing criminal offenses. We are asking and warning them not to do so,” said Karan.
