“Frequent recurrence to fundamental principles is absolutely essential to preserve the blessings of liberty,” are the words of Benjamin Franklin. Returning to the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only guarantee of its survival and functionality, wrote the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, on his X profile.
Dodik stated that he welcomes the messages from French President Emmanuel Macron and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, as well as all those calling for respect of the constitutional order.
“However, if Mrs. Kaja Kallas believes that the constitutional order is what Christian Schmidt imposed, then we do not understand each other. That constitutional order is written in Annex 4 of the Dayton Agreement. That very constitutional order was undermined by Schmidt through his interventions, and for years every high representative has been eroding the foundations of constitutionality. Republika Srpska and I, as its president, have always defended the Constitution,” Dodik emphasized.
He stressed that it is naive to believe that injustice can be resolved simply by pointing it out.
“The only solution is the annulment of Christian Schmidt’s voluntarism and all the decisions he imposed. In that case, Republika Srpska is ready to temporarily freeze the laws recently passed by the National Assembly. We want to give a chance to dialogue and agreement among the three constituent peoples. I am once again calling for agreement. However we agree – that is how it will be for us. Not for someone else,” concluded Dodik.
