Cvijanović: Sarajevo has clearly become a dangerous place for Serbs

Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, strongly condemned the act of vandalism in Sarajevo, where high school students from Novi Sad were attacked with baseball bats, and called on the relevant authorities to appropriately sanction the perpetrators.

“Sarajevo has clearly become a dangerous place for Serbs—both for those who work there and for those who visit. Attacks on Serbs are becoming increasingly frequent, and this is not the first time that young people from Serbia have been victims of violence in this city,” Cvijanović told SRNA.

Unfortunately, she emphasized, this attack—like all previous ones—is a logical consequence of the sick Serbophobia emanating from the political and media scene in Sarajevo, which we have repeatedly warned about.

“It is high time that those responsible for spreading hatred toward everything Serb in Sarajevo finally come to their senses,” Cvijanović stated.

Last night, in downtown Sarajevo, high school students from Novi Sad—among them a girl—were attacked with baseball bats.

This is not the first such brutal attack on Serb children in Sarajevo. A year ago, also in the city center, a mother and her son were attacked in a shopping mall because the boy was wearing a Red Star jersey. The attackers forced the child to remove the jersey and knocked the mother to the ground.

On New Year’s Eve 2023, tires were slashed on four cars with Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Užice license plates. Previously, children from the “Zvezdara” Football Club who were attending a youth tournament in Sarajevo were also attacked.

At the end of February this year, Serbs from Pale who came to work in Sarajevo were attacked in front of the Presidency building.

Serbs employed at the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were approached by an unknown man as they exited the bus they take to work every morning. He photographed them and then issued threats.
