Zovko: Dialogue is the only possible solution in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The responsibility lies with all political representatives to prevent an escalation of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dialogue is the only possible solution, says Željana Zovko, a Croatian Member of the European Parliament.

Speaking on the television program Telering, she stated that her remarks are often maliciously misinterpreted in political Sarajevo, including her statement that the EUFOR Althea mission lacks the capacity to protect the population in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the event of an escalation.

Zovko reiterated her position, which is shared by many European parliamentarians, that Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot join the European Union while the Office of the High Representative (OHR) remains in place. She also criticized the manner in which the OHR’s mandate is being extended and the significant funds allocated for its operation.

“No one can be above the law, including Christian Schmidt,” Zovko emphasized.

She described the situation as schizophrenic.

“I cannot understand how there can be any position with the authority to impose laws in a sovereign country, without being accountable to anyone for the decisions made, and that judgments are then issued based on those laws. But, God help us, that is the current reality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, such a situation is absolutely incompatible with the European path,” Zovko concluded.
