The Ambassador of BiH to Serbia, Aleksandar Vranješ, stated that Republika Srpska will fight and do everything possible to explain to the U.S. State Department that the situation in BiH is not black and white, and in this effort, he expects support from Serbia.
Vranješ pointed out that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was briefed based on existing templates and patterns that are rather one-sided.
- It was never realistic to expect that a State Department official responsible for BiH would inform the Secretary of the new reality by accusing former Ambassador Michael Murphy of overstepping his mandate, participating in the fabrication of a political process, and serving an illegal high representative whom the previous administration recognized – Vranješ stated.
He emphasized that Srpska still has room to change these narratives.
- We are confident that we will find a way to convey the message that there are different interpretations of events in BiH and that, at the very least, it would be fair to listen to all sides before making decisions – Vranješ said.
He added that Srpska will make every effort to inform Secretary Rubio of the perspective of official Banja Luka.
Vranješ pointed out that the constitutional crisis was triggered by an unelected foreign envoy from Germany, Christian Schmidt, who imposed amendments to the Criminal Code, while Republika Srpska is merely defending itself.
- Republika Srpska is in a defensive position, protecting its constitutional status from an orchestrated attack, a coordinated effort involving the false high representative Christian Schmidt and former U.S. Ambassador Murphy – Vranješ concluded.
He noted that the new U.S. administration under Donald Trump has not yet taken a clear stance on Europe as a whole, let alone on BiH.
Vranješ emphasized that BiH is not a significant factor in global affairs to warrant an immediate revision of U.S. foreign policy toward it.
We will fight and do everything to explain to the State Department that the situation is not black and white. In this effort, we expect Serbia’s support – Vranješ stated.
He stressed that Republika Srpska has done nothing wrong and that the U.S. Secretary of State’s statement will not deter it from defending its constitutional rights.
