“Look at what happened to the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik. Further clarification is needed. We share the justified outrage of the broader public in the Balkans regarding the absurd guilty verdict handed down by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 26 in a fabricated case against the president of Srpska,” stated Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Zakharova warned that this is yet another case where politics has taken precedence over the law, resulting in the legally elected representative of the people being found guilty for faithfully fulfilling the obligations imposed upon him by the Constitution.
- “And this was interpreted as a violation of national legislation. The puppet judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina attempted to enforce the dictates of the self-proclaimed high representative, the German citizen Christian Schmidt. This ruling is clearly unjust and cannot have any legal consequences.”
Zakharova further emphasized that the ruling is clearly aimed at eliminating political opponents and removing the leader of the Serb people in Bosnia and Herzegovina from the political scene.
- “We support the efforts of the authorities of Republika Srpska to protect their constitutional status in line with the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina of 1995, based on the nominal principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity of the country, equality of the three constituent peoples, and the broad powers of the two entities.”
Zakharova concluded by stating that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and one of the guarantors of the peace agreement, will use all political means at its disposal to prevent the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina from following a negative trajectory, to neutralize potential conflicts and interethnic tensions, and to restore the situation to the Dayton framework.
