Dodik: Scandalous reasoning behind the verdict

“Any judge will tell you—issuing a verdict is not difficult; the challenge lies in writing a justification that supports it. The reasoning provided by Judge Sena Uzunović is, at the very least, scandalous,” stated Milorad Dodik, president of Republika Srpska.

Dodik emphasized that this reasoning undermines all fundamental legal principles that have existed since the inception of law.

  • “First: The accused is presumed innocent, and the prosecutor must prove guilt.
  • Second: Innocence does not need to be proven—guilt must be established.
  • Third: A verdict is issued based on irrefutable evidence provided by the prosecution, not by dismissing the defense’s arguments.”

“When you read the verdict’s justification, you realize that Sena Uzunović followed the principles of:

  • First: Dodik is guilty, and the defense must prove his innocence.
  • Second: Dodik’s guilt is assumed, and innocence must be demonstrated.
  • Third: The verdict was issued by dismissing the defense’s arguments; the prosecution did not need to prove anything (and did not prove anything at all).”

“Such reasoning reflects either extreme incompetence (which I doubt), extreme arrogance (I don’t know what to think), or something else entirely (which seems to be the case).” Dodik concluded.
