Vilimsky (FPÖ): Dodik’s verdict is not only politically motivated but also sets a dangerous precedent

The conviction of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina is yet another example of a legal “witch hunt” and serves as a deeply concerning signal for stability in the Balkans, warned Harald Vilimsky, head of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) delegation in the European Parliament.

  • “This verdict is not only politically motivated but also sets a dangerous precedent that could further fuel tensions in the region,” Vilimsky stated today.

He emphasized that the entire process against Dodik represents an attack by a clearly biased and politicized judiciary, as well as yet another targeted assault on the autonomy of Republika Srpska.

  • “Such legal arbitrariness exacerbates the already fragile situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and contradicts fundamental democratic principles. It is imperative to put an end to actions against legitimately and democratically elected politicians,” the statement reads.

Vilimsky stressed the importance of an impartial and balanced approach by the international community, rather than supporting unilateral measures that further escalate tensions in the Balkans.

  • “The rights of the Serb population in Bosnia and Herzegovina must not be endangered by politicized verdicts,” he stated.

He also praised the recent statements of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the commitment of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in this context.

  • “Orbán deserves particular respect for his unwavering stance as a defender of democracy, the rule of law, and sovereignty,” Vilimsky concluded in the statement issued by the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ).
