From the heart of Kosovo and Metohija, from the land where every inch is defended like a fortress, I watch as the same shadow that has been trying for decades to take away what is ours now looms over Republika Srpska. Nothing here is accidental. Nothing is isolated. What they are doing to Srpska today, they have already done to Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija—just under different names, with different mechanisms, but with the same goal: to strip Serbs of their right to decide on their own land, said Filip Fićović.
“In Kosovo and Metohija, they told us to respect laws we did not enact, courts we did not choose, and institutions we do not recognize. Now, they are doing the same in Republika Srpska. A court without constitutional grounds is judging you, verdicts are being handed down by those without mandate, and decisions are dictated by foreign centers of power that openly admit they want Srpska to cease existing as a political factor,” Fićović stated.
How is it possible that one nation is under the same kind of attack in two different places, yet some think it is not connected, he asked.
“In Kosovo and Metohija, they first told us that Belgrade would no longer have a say in anything. Today, in Srpska, they tell you that Banja Luka will no longer decide anything. Because, you see, you are too independent, too self-sufficient, too determined to have a say in your own fate,” he added.
When they started their attempts to take Kosovo and Metohija, they said it was to “open our path to Europe,” Fićović noted.
“Now, they tell Srpska that they will ‘integrate’ you into some kind of civic Bosnia and Herzegovina, but without entity competencies, without your own laws, without autonomy. Nothing new. We know this game. First, they impose institutions on you, then they forbid you from defending yourself, then they force you to admit your own guilt, and finally, they tell you that you chose to be what they imposed on you,” he said.
That is how nations are subdued. That is how they try to break the Serbs, he warned.
“This is why it is crucial to see this for what it really is. This is not just a trial against Milorad Dodik—it is a political project aimed at erasing Republika Srpska as a political entity. Do you really think they will stop at one man? First, they will remove those who are politically undesirable. Then, they will tell you that the constitution no longer applies. Then, they will start taking away your competencies one by one—just as they did with Serbia. Look at Kosovo and Metohija. First, they said it would remain under Serbian administration, only temporarily under an international mission. Then, they established their own institutions. Then, they banned Serbian ones. Then, they recognized their so-called ‘state.’ And finally, today, they arrest Serbs just for being Serbs—and they even kill them,” he said.
Now imagine what that outcome will look like in Republika Srpska if there is no resistance, he cautioned.
“First, they will tell you that the court has jurisdiction. Then, they will tell you that you must obey all of their decisions. Then, they will say that the president of Republika Srpska can no longer be a Serb who defends Srpska but someone ‘more acceptable.’ Then, they will tell you that the National Assembly of Republika Srpska no longer has the right to make decisions concerning Srpska. Then, they will tell you that the entities no longer exist. And what will you do then? That is why I write this—not because I believe you do not understand, but because I know that silence has never brought freedom,” Fićović said.
Everything they are doing to Srpska today, they have already done to Serbia, Fićović stated.
“They have already done it in Kosovo and Metohija. And they will continue until they break the Serbian backbone and turn us into a people who nod their heads and accept being whatever others tell us we should be. But if history has shown anything, if the Serbian people have proven anything, it is that no one has ever been able to write history for Serbs without their consent. And that will is in defending what is ours. In defending Republika Srpska. Because if we allow them to take one man today, tomorrow they will take our state. But if we resist today, then they will know that Serbs cannot be bought, cannot be intimidated, cannot be broken. Because Serbs have no price. Serbs have freedom. And freedom is not negotiable. Just as we in Kosovo and Metohija know that the battle is not over, just as we know that the Serbian will has not been extinguished, so too must you in Srpska know that the fight is only beginning! And when Serbs defend what is theirs, we all know how that usually ends. Because, as one great Serb once said: ‘Excellent, now we can attack in all directions!'” Fićović concluded.
