Mazalica: questions in the Prosecutor’s Office seem as if they were asked by Schmidt

The joint celebration of Sretenje, the statehood day of Serbia and Republika Srpska, seems to have been most upsetting to political Sarajevo. Just before the most significant Serb holiday, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH summoned SNSD MP Srđan Mazalica for questioning. The reason? A special session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NSRS), where the information on the collapse of the legal system in BiH due to violations of the Dayton Peace Agreement was discussed.

Who, in this case, violated the Dayton Agreement?

  • “They have summoned several MPs for questioning, and the Prosecutor’s Office has incorrect information regarding the NSRS session and the related processes,” Mazalica said in an interview for the morning program.

He emphasized that the intention is clearly to exert pressure on MPs.

  • “They want to show us who is in charge while openly stating that no one is under investigation. They open a case and conduct questioning without any intention to press charges,” Mazalica stated.

He pointed out that the real goal is to create pressure.

  • “They are hoping that this will yield some results, but they cannot influence me. Perhaps they believe they can still intimidate certain MPs,” Mazalica noted.

“It felt as if Schmidt was asking the questions”

Mazalica stated that MPs have immunity, but if they refused to appear, they would face higher fines.

  • “The questions seemed as if they were formulated by Christian Schmidt himself, as they focused on the very topics he has been targeting. The prosecutor asked about him, referring to him as the ‘high representative,’ to which I responded that he lacks the approval of the UN Security Council and is merely a former German minister of agriculture. The prosecutor seemed bothered by this and told me not to say it. I refused to sign the record, even at the cost of paying a fine. She then rephrased the question to avoid mentioning Schmidt altogether,” Mazalica explained.

He emphasized that everything was done to ensure that the official record does not reflect the fact that Schmidt is not the high representative.

  • “I have a strong feeling that Schmidt himself will be reading these records from the Prosecutor’s Office,” Mazalica added.

He concluded by criticizing the interference of the judiciary in the legislative branch, stating:

  • “It is outrageous that the judiciary is interfering in legislative affairs. They are the ones dismantling the legal order.”
