The second half of the Bosnia and Herzegovina handball championship began with a surprise. Višegrad HED secured an important victory by defeating Sloboda in Tuzla with a score of 26:25.
Despite not making any additions to their squad during the winter transfer window, coach Željko Jaćimović believed in his team and their hard work. This victory at the start of the second half of the season is crucial in their fight to stay in the league.
For the winning team, Lazar Rackanović scored seven goals, while Ognjen Markanović added four. On the losing side, Ante Dragičević stood out with ten goals.
Jaćimović emphasized that this triumph will serve as a huge boost for the team:
- Many had already written us off before the start of the second half of the season, but we proved that we never give up. We worked hard and believed that quality training would bring results. We played an excellent match in Tuzla, defeating Sloboda, a team that was not only the favorite in this match but is also among the top contenders for the championship. We fought tirelessly, never backing down, and were rewarded with a valuable victory. In the next round, we host the defending champions, Izviđač, so we are in for a tough challenge – said coach Jaćimović.
Višegrad entered the second half of the season without any roster changes.
- We previously stated that we would only bring in players who could significantly improve our game and that we wouldn’t add players just for the sake of it. We have our own squad, and it’s up to them to fight for more playing time. This victory is particularly important, as it has proven that we can compete with the best teams in the league. With the standings at the bottom extremely tight, the battle for survival will go down to the wire. We have our goals, and I am confident that my players will give their all to secure our place in the top tier. It won’t be easy, but we are here to work, train, and fight – and then hope for the best – concluded Jaćimović.
