The U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Michael Murphy, will be leaving BiH in less than 15 days, on February 16, Glas Srpske has learned.
The U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo has neither confirmed nor denied this information, as we have yet to receive a response to our inquiry regarding whether Murphy is departing on February 16.
According to earlier announcements, Murphy was originally expected to leave BiH in January.
He assumed his position as the U.S. ambassador in Sarajevo nearly two years ago, in mid-February 2022.
During the past two years of Murphy’s tenure in Sarajevo, numerous tensions have arisen between him and officials from Republika Srpska, particularly with Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, who strongly opposed his positions directed at Srpska and its representatives.
Officials from Republika Srpska have repeatedly stated that Murphy does nothing other than provoke representatives of the Republic. He has also been named as the main instigator behind the U.S. sanctions imposed on Srpska officials and companies.
Even the fans of Igokea marked Murphy’s departure just two days ago with lyrics from a song by Šaban Šaulić, displayed on a banner before the start of the 19th round ABA League match between Igokea and Crvena Zvezda in Laktaši.
“You are leaving, you are leaving, shattering their dreams, in your heart a painful void remains, Srpska endured, Mile endured, what will we do now, dear son?” — the banner read.
