The Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska will premiere the exhibition “Iskra” by Banja Luka painter Renato Rakić on February 6 at 7:00 PM, officially launching the museum’s exhibition program for the year.
Rakić’s latest series of works presents a new, abstract dimension of his artistic expression, offering a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in a world of deep experiences, introspection, and art that defines this exhibition as distinctive.
“Iskra” is a special artistic experience that explores personal states and emotions, connecting abstract forms with the experience of existence in space and time. Through his works, the artist seeks to depict the inner dynamics—the invisible force that drives emotional reactions and intellectual questioning—challenging the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with the world around them.
Each composition in the exhibition represents a unique interpretation of the artist’s search for peace in a chaotic world, as well as the constant interplay between light and darkness, with shapes that continuously transform.
At the same time, “Iskra” is an invitation to reflect on one’s own being and identity. Notably, this renowned Banja Luka artist is deeply committed to working with young talents, continuing the tradition established by his mentor, painter Slobodan Dragaš.
About the artist
Renato Rakić was born on August 30, 1978, in Gradiška and earned his master’s degree from the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka, specializing in painting. His artistic aspirations manifest in various forms, from drawing and painting to photography and design.
Although he did not secure a position in his field, he considers his decision to be a “freelancer” the best choice of his life. His work aims to depict the essence of humanity beyond the boundaries of ego, free from racial, gender, or religious distinctions. What sets him apart is his effort to confront fears—especially the fear of death—and to encourage his audience to do the same, ultimately helping them to liberate themselves from these anxieties.
Rakić also emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment. He believes that people are often too focused on the past or the future, forgetting to appreciate the “now.”
Experience and contributions
Beyond painting, Rakić is one of the founders of the Association of Fine Artists of Republika Srpska, the “Dragaš Foundation” (which provides art education for students preparing for graphic design, architecture, painting, and printmaking studies), and the “Vespa Club Banja Luka.”
He previously worked at the University of Business Studies in Banja Luka as an assistant professor for courses in design fundamentals, drawing, and painting. Additionally, he has worked as a photographer and designer for “Support” and “Creative Studio Form” agencies.
