Srđan Ćeranić, an art teacher at Vuk Karadžić Elementary School in Bijeljina, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Saint Sava Award—the highest recognition for educational and pedagogical work granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska.
A recognition of dedication and passion for art
This award is not only a tribute to years of dedication and effort but also proof that genuine love for education and art finds its way into the hearts of students.
Born in 1976 in Sarajevo, Ćeranić completed his secondary education in graphic design in Novi Sad before earning his degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Trebinje, under Professor Mirko Toljić. Over the years, his artistic expression has been shaped through dedicated work, numerous solo exhibitions both domestically and internationally, as well as participation in collective exhibitions and art colonies. As a member of the Association of Fine Artists of Republika Srpska, he actively contributes to the artistic scene.
A milestone in 20 years of teaching
Receiving the Saint Sava Award marks a significant milestone in his two-decade-long pedagogical career, and Srđan embraces it with deep emotions:
“This recognition carries immense honor and significance. I am proud and immensely grateful to my students and colleagues who have supported me unconditionally. This award is not just an acknowledgment of past work but also an encouragement to continue investing in each new generation, passing on the love for art and creative expression.”
Throughout the years, Ćeranić has guided many talented students, many of whom have become devoted artists and creators in their own right.
“Education is the most powerful weapon of any society. Our future depends on the quality of education we provide to children today. I believe a great teacher is one whose students ask questions because asking questions means seeking knowledge. That is when we know we are on the right path—creating generations who will use their talents and knowledge to make the world a more beautiful and better place to live.”
A mission beyond teaching
For Srđan Ćeranić, leading students through the world of art is more than a profession—it is a mission. His work is inspired by the words of Pablo Picasso:
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
This is precisely his goal—to help children preserve and nurture their creative spark, believe in their ideas, and boldly translate them onto the canvas of life.
