The exhibition “A Letter to a Serb Woman. Leo Tolstoy on the Divine and the Human” will be opened on February 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the exhibition space of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Banja Luka (third floor – history section).
The exhibition is made possible through the collaboration between the Center for Russian Studies of the Faculty of Philology, University of Banja Luka, the Russian House in Belgrade, and the State Museum of Leo Tolstoy in Moscow.
This collaboration was initiated on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the Annexation Crisis. The exhibition presents the correspondence of Anđa Petrović, sister of Nadežda and Rastko Petrović, who, two days after the Austro-Hungarian Empire proclaimed the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 5, 1908, wrote to Leo Tolstoy seeking his help and appealing for the protection of the Serbs during this challenging time. This correspondence resulted in the writing of On the Annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Austria, the last work Tolstoy published during his lifetime.
The opening event will feature speeches by Biljana Babić, Dean of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Banja Luka, Galina-Marija Mićić, Assistant at the Faculty of Philology, and Prof. Dr. Boško Branković, Head of the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Banja Luka.
The host of the exhibition is the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Banja Luka.
