The Auschwitz camp was a place of death, pain, and the most massive suffering of the Jewish people at the hands of Nazi Germany, its accomplices, and allies, stated Željka Cvijanović, Serb member and chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- “As we commemorate the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation, today we remember with profound reverence the more than six million victims of the Holocaust, including one million Jews killed in this camp. We are obligated to remember them, to resolutely oppose various forms of historical revisionism, as well as the revival of evil in any ideological form,” Cvijanović added.
She further emphasized the necessity of confronting rising levels of antisemitism in certain parts of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have become particularly pronounced since late 2023.
- “We must clearly point out and combat such tendencies using all available means. Only by learning lessons from the past can we build a more peaceful and better future for the generations to come,” she noted.
Cvijanović is attending the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp in Oświęcim, Poland.
The event is being attended by numerous presidents and prime ministers from European countries. The Red Army liberated the Auschwitz death camp on January 27, 1945.
