“Punish us as much as you want; we are free because we live today in our Republika Srpska, created peacefully on January 9, 1992, and defended in the Defensive-Fatherland War, for which 26,048 heroes gave their lives,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska and constitutional law professor Siniša Karan.
“Republika Srpska was loudly and clearly confirmed as ours through the 2016 referendum and reaffirmed last year by all Serbs worldwide in the Declaration of the All-Serb Assembly,” Karan stated to Srna, commenting on the sanctions imposed on him by the United States.
He emphasized that everyone in Republika Srpska must continue to do their work and defend their homeland, for which 26,048 heroes and 8,994 civilians sacrificed their lives, preserving the legacy of Republika Srpska and the memory of Serb heroes and victims.
“Our sacrifice is small; only Republika Srpska and the heroes who defended it are great and eternal,” said Karan, adding that the sanctions imposed on him by the outgoing US administration are, for him, an honor.
Karan criticized the outgoing Clinton-Biden administration, stating that it has, once again, proven itself an enemy of Republika Srpska and the Serb people.
“With this decision, they have shamefully consigned themselves to the trash heap of history, where all aggressors sent there by our great freedom-loving people decay—be they Ottoman conquerors, fascists, Nazis, Ustashe, or political and radical Islamists,” Karan concluded.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury announced that it sanctioned eight individuals involved in organizing the celebration of Republika Srpska Day, including the Minister of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska Siniša Karan, the President of the Constitutional Court of Republika Srpska DŽerard Selman, and the President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska Rajko Kuzmanović.
