The Brčko-based basketball club Lavovi is proud to have the highest number of players in the Bosnia and Herzegovina women’s national team. Head coach Drago Karalić has included three young players from the Lavovi team on his roster: Valentina Došić, Jelena Lazarević, and Anđela Bekić.
This achievement is a significant recognition of Lavovi’s hard work over the years. The club has focused on developing its youth categories, and the results now confirm the validity of that vision.
Coach Aleksandar Bližnjaković expressed pride in his players and confidence in their ability to justify the call-up.
“We are proud to be the club that provides the most players to the BiH national team. It’s a testament to the quality of our work and an additional motivation to continue improving in the future. I’m not surprised by the call-ups because these are excellent players who have shown their skills over time. I’m especially happy for the youngest, Anđela Bekić, as this call will mean a lot to her and serve as an extra motivation to continue her hard work,” Bližnjaković said.
Lavovi’s commitment to youth development is evident, and these call-ups are a reward for years of investment in homegrown talent.
“Lavovi have two players each in the U16 and U18 national teams. It’s particularly gratifying that these girls are key players for the national team. This confirms that we’re on the right path and that our vision of developing players is successful. It’s also a great example for all our players in the club, showing that with hard work, they too can follow in their footsteps, progress, build meaningful careers, and even become national team players. This success is certainly a morale booster for everyone—players, coaches, and management alike—to aim even higher,” Bližnjaković added.
The BiH national team will gather on February 3 as part of Group H for the European Championship qualifiers, where they will face Switzerland, Montenegro, and Luxembourg.
