Dodik: We will reconsider whether to continue on the European path

In an annual interview with RTRS, Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik stated that in the coming months, serious consideration will be given to whether to continue pursuing the European path.

  • The European path has given us nothing. All we have are problems because of Europe. If we enter the EU, it means there will be no Republika Srpska. Is that a price this people are willing to pay? Let them pay it if they want. I won’t. As long as I lead, that will not happen – Dodik declared.

Criticism of EU integration

Dodik emphasized that Balkan countries should not join the EU, predicting that the Union will collapse before Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes a member.

  • The European path for BiH is not what Brussels is pushing on us, nor what Sarajevo wants. They have sided with the Muslims – Dodik said, adding that the EU is a deception.

He argued that Europe has lost its cohesion, abandoned Christian values, lacks strong leaders, and that the governments in Austria, Germany, and France have failed, while elections are being manipulated in Romania.

“Five plus two” conditions

Dodik criticized the “five plus two” conditions for BiH’s EU integration, calling them fabricated and questioning their legitimacy.

  • Who decided on ‘five plus two’? Who adopted it? We are not naïve – he said, pointing out that these conditions also involve property issues.

He added that discussions about the rule of law are baseless as long as the Constitutional Court of BiH includes three foreign judges and ignores the absence of Serb representation.

Republika Srpska as a subject of international law

Dodik reiterated that Republika Srpska is a factor in international law and agreements, citing the 2005 opinion of the Venice Commission, which stated that the annexes of the Dayton Agreement are international treaties.

Those who signed it have the status of international entities, and that includes Srpska – Dodik said.

He further emphasized that the Dayton Agreement can only be amended by its original signatories, which are Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH.
