Samir Dizdarević, who fired an automatic rifle in the village of Šumatac near Velika Kladuša and then fled the scene, was arrested last night.
Dizdarević is a U.S. citizen who was deported from the United States.
Details of the incident
The incident occurred around 2 PM yesterday, prompting an extensive manhunt for the suspect, who identified himself as an “American soldier.”
Following a coordinated police operation involving members of the Una-Sana Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), the Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA), the Federal Police Administration (FUP), and the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the armed and dangerous man was taken into custody.
Reports indicate that Dizdarević had arrived from the United States. The investigation began after a man reported a video call during which Dizdarević started shooting.
A second report later confirmed that he fired shots near the Šemić Mill.
Manhunt and arrest
Dizdarević had rented a BMW X5 on Monday, which was spotted after the shooting in the First Muslim Brigade Street. However, he failed to stop for a police patrol and fled to an unknown location.
Following the second report about his presence near the Šemić Mill, police searched the area but initially found no traces of him.
Ultimately, he was arrested later that evening.
