Špica Takes Over Sloboda

Špica Takes Over Sloboda

Renowned footballer of Banja Luka’s Borac, Damir Špica, will be sitting on the bench of Sloboda from Novi Grad in the upcoming half-season. After a short break, Špica is returning to coaching.

Sloboda finished the autumn part of the Republika Srpska championship in sixth place with 25 points. They are entering the continuation of the season with the goal of further progress.

  • After Sloboda was left without a coach, I had several discussions with the club’s president, Mladen Bosančić, and we reached an agreement relatively easily regarding the terms of cooperation and expectations for the remainder of the league. What we want is for Sloboda to achieve the best possible ranking, avoid a relegation battle in the second half, and try to promote some young players. It is clear that the team can do better and that there is room for improvement – emphasized Špica.

Sloboda will start preparations for the new season between January 15 and 20, and it is planned that part of the preparations, if possible, will take place in Medulin.

  • Our desire is to start working during that period. We will carry out the first phase in our city, and after that, we should go to Medulin for two weeks, where we will work on team cohesion. I am familiar with the team, and we have already discussed that we will need two to three real reinforcements. We will bring in players who can immediately make a difference, not just fill the numbers – added the coach.

His son Adonis is successfully building his coaching career in Austria. Now, he might be able to assist his father with advice.

  • We talk every day, and football is, of course, the main topic of our conversations. After injuries, he dedicated himself to a coaching career, and at that time, I gave him advice based on my experience. Now he has made significant progress. He has a professional license and can undoubtedly teach a lot. Through these conversations, I am sure that both of us benefit and can improve our knowledge – added Sloboda’s new coach.
