The Government of Republika Srpska has approved funding of 74,000,000 KM for the gasification project of the eastern part of Republika Srpska. The funds will be provided through the Public Investment Program of the Republika Srpska Budget.
The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy and Mining have been tasked with implementing the decision, while the company “Sarajevo-gas” in East Sarajevo is responsible for carrying out the project in accordance with regulations, according to the Government’s Public Relations Bureau.
The gasification project for the eastern part of Republika Srpska consists of three phases, two of which have already been completed.
- The first phase included the construction of a metering and regulation station for “Toplane-INS” and the conversion of boiler rooms to use natural gas instead of environmentally harmful fuel oil. It also involved expanding the distribution network in the municipalities of East Novo Sarajevo and East Ilidža.
With the commissioning of the gas-powered heating plant in East Sarajevo, heating has been provided for 70,000 square meters of residential space, 900 apartments, and 30 institutions. The boiler capacity has increased from 8 megawatts to 20 megawatts.
The second phase involved the construction of the Pale-Jahorina gas pipeline, initially supplying the municipality of Pale and Jahorina with compressed natural gas.
The third phase of the project includes the construction of a main (transport) gas pipeline from the Jakovica transfer station (Šekovići) through Vlasenica, Milići, Igrišta, and Han Pijesak. The total length of this pipeline is 48 kilometers, with an estimated cost of 72,100,000 KM.
The overall value of the project, including the construction of the main steel gas pipeline from Jakovica (Šekovići) through Vlasenica, Milići, and the branch line to the Igrišta ski center and Han Pijesak, along with expropriation costs, is approximately 74,000,000 KM.
Viewed in a broader context, the sale of natural gas as an environmentally friendly energy source is expected to reduce electricity consumption. This opens up opportunities to sell surplus electricity at significantly higher prices than those paid by local consumers.
The construction of the main gas pipeline and the gasification of these municipalities will create conditions for developing industrial zones, enabling the establishment of production facilities that use natural gas for technological purposes. This will also support the employment of skilled labor.
Using natural gas for heating purposes will reduce harmful gas emissions and contribute to environmental protection.
This project will connect all republican institutions and facilities, as well as industrial consumers, to the natural gas network.
The investment in the third phase of the eastern Republika Srpska gasification project, which includes the municipalities of Šekovići, Vlasenica, Milići, and Han Pijesak, as well as the Igrišta ski center, is financially, economically, and socially justified.
