Cvijanović thanks Rutte

The Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, met today in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Cvijanović emphasized the importance of NATO’s support for the Dayton Peace Agreement, expressing gratitude to Rutte for his stance on the matter.

“Thank you for your position regarding the Dayton Agreement, on which BiH is based and through which it operates and exists. I appreciate your support for this agreement and for the European integration process. It is extremely important to hear such confirmation. I am confident that our cooperation will continue to be successful,” Cvijanović said.

She reiterated BiH’s commitment to cooperating with NATO.

“We are grateful to NATO for its support in strengthening capacities and security. We want this cooperation to continue. The challenges in BiH are political issues discussed in the political arena in a democratic manner. What is important about today’s meeting is that we are fully aware of the need to strengthen cooperation,” she added.

Cvijanović also thanked Rutte for an open and constructive discussion, appreciating NATO’s balanced approach and understanding of differing perspectives within BiH.

“Together, we expressed our commitment to continuing cooperation with NATO and maintaining peace and stability in BiH. I informed my interlocutor that BiH faces no major security challenges and that all processes are taking place exclusively in the political arena,” Cvijanović stated in her Instagram post.

Rutte reaffirmed NATO’s strong support for BiH, emphasizing that peace and security in BiH are vital for the Alliance and the entire region.

“We support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH. A stable BiH is our strategic interest. We discussed ways to strengthen cooperation, the Armed Forces of BiH, and defense. These efforts benefit all your citizens and align with the EU integration process we support,” Rutte highlighted.

Later today, Cvijanović is set to meet with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and participate in the EU-Western Balkans Summit.
