Accordionist Đorđe Perić crowned world champion again

Đorđe Perić, a 14-year-old accordion virtuoso from Bijeljina, achieved absolute victory at the recently held International Festival in Budapest, earning the title of laureate in the instrumental genre category.

With this win, Đorđe edges closer to his 200th career award.

Russia, China, Portugal, Sweden, and France are just some of the countries where Đorđe has competed and claimed first prizes. The latest addition to this list is Hungary.

A milestone achievement

This award at the International Festival in Budapest holds special significance, opening new chapters and opportunities for the young musician.

  • “It’s not just about my placement; I also had the chance to explore the city. Besides the award, I was offered several concert engagements in Rome, Budapest, and performances at the festival next year,” said the young virtuoso.

The festival in Budapest gathered over 300 participants from 30 countries. Competing at such a high level is far from simple—it requires immense dedication, especially alongside school obligations.

  • “You need to plan competitions years in advance to achieve a remarkable result like this, which demonstrates that among all those participants, Đorđe was the absolute winner with the maximum number of points,” explained his father Slaviša, who is also a mathematics professor.

A career of countless accolades

After winning 150 awards, Đorđe and his family stopped counting. His 14 years have been filled with successes and wonderful memories. However, the Budapest competition stands out from his previous experiences.

  • “This wasn’t just a competition for accordionists but included almost all instruments—violin, cello, piano… I’m truly glad to have placed as the laureate of the entire competition,” added Đorđe.

Future performances and a special gift

This young accordion virtuoso has numerous performances across Europe ahead of him. Early next year, he will gift his fellow citizens a solo concert, where he will host artists from Sweden, Estonia, Mexico, Norway, and Serbia.
