Cvijanović sends letter to diplomats over MFA obstructions

The Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, addressed all diplomatic and consular missions, as well as international organizations, requesting that all future correspondence be sent directly to her office, in addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), headed by Elmedin Konaković. Cvijanović stated that this step aims to highlight significant issues regarding communication channels between diplomatic missions in BiH and the Office of the Serb member of the Presidency.

  • “According to the BiH Constitution, the Presidency is the sole body responsible for conducting foreign policy, while the MFA serves as a supporting body facilitating inbound and outbound communication with foreign entities. However, in recent times, significant issues have arisen with the Ministry exceeding its established competencies,” reads the letter from the Serb member’s office, as reported by Glas Srpske.

The letter emphasizes that the Ministry has taken positions and issued instructions to BiH embassies worldwide without prior decisions by the BiH Presidency, as required by the Constitution.

“On multiple occasions, the Ministry failed to forward key correspondence to the Office of the Serb member of the Presidency or did so with significant delays,” the letter states.

This situation, as concluded, has led to interruptions in timely and accurate communication, resulting in misinterpretations of official positions and disruptions in the functioning of the Office of the Serb member of the Presidency.
