“Foča A3 Format” Attracts 55 Artists from Two Continents

The Third Exhibition of Paintings “Foča A3 Format” has been opened at the gallery of the Museum of Old Herzegovina in Foča, featuring the works of 55 artists from Republika Srpska, the Federation of BiH, Serbia, Montenegro, Norway, Germany, Russia, and India.

This exhibition places Foča among cities that uphold the tradition of showcasing small-format artworks, which are both inspiring for their possibilities and challenging for their limitations, as emphasized during the opening ceremony.

One participant, Miomir Mišo Vemić, a painter from Nikšić, described the exhibition as one of small format but great significance for Foča and beyond.

“Fascinating—so many different poetics, so many talented artists in one place. I am presenting an old theme—horse beings, which actually represent humans with all their hardships and pains,” said Vemić.

Tamara Vučinić Kahriman from Sarajevo highlighted that working in the A3 format was a significant challenge for her, as she usually works on larger formats.

“This is mastery. People who create in this format are true masters, which I wouldn’t say about myself. It’s important that Foča gathers so many artists and has surpassed much larger cities, making it the only place in the region hosting something like this,” said Kahriman.

Dragana Kovač, a young painter from Foča, expressed her honor in being part of the exhibition.

“As someone once said, you don’t paint with colors but with feelings, so visitors here have the opportunity to experience the most beautiful emotions in this gallery,” stated Kovač.

The creator of the exhibition, academic painter Danilo Ivanović, a native of Foča living in Norway, emphasized the exceptional quality of the artists, noting the significant presence of young painters.

“We didn’t impose any themes, which is why there’s such a wide range of motifs and subjects. This diversity is a treasure for the audience. The response from artists has been excellent—they’re eager to exhibit and showcase their work. There was even more interest, but we couldn’t accept more than 60 pieces,” explained Ivanović.

He added that the event has become a traditional and now international occasion.

Duška Stanković, the director of the Museum, expressed pride in the exhibition’s growing appeal, attracting more artists every year, not only from Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH.

“Our goal is to attract as many exhibitors and visitors as possible. We hope to continue progressing in the future,” said Stanković.

The exhibition will remain open until December 10.
