Historical science under attack from multiple sides with attempts at falsification and revision

Historical science today is under attack from various sides with attempts at falsification, revision, and distortion of historical facts, stated the Director of the Institute of Historical Sciences at the University of East Sarajevo, Draga Mastilović.

Mastilović emphasized the need to “find ways to defend the scientific principles of historical science.”

“Through academic gatherings like today’s conference in Pale on historical revisionism, we defend the scientific principles of historical science and build a culture of remembrance for future generations to prevent history from repeating itself. We must fight against revisionism, mythomania, and all threats to historical truths established by previous historians, which are now being subjected to relentless revision for political, national, and even geopolitical goals of certain key players,” Mastilović stressed.

He noted that the Institute of Historical Sciences at the University of East Sarajevo is organizing its second academic conference with the Russian Historical Society.

“This is a great honor and pleasure for us. Over the past year, we have achieved significant results, publishing four monographs and a collection of documents. Two academic conferences and a roundtable have been held, along with several promotions and exhibitions of archival documents on significant topics in Serbian history. This year, the Institute also established a research center representing the Russian Historical Society in Republika Srpska, which is the first such representation outside of Russia,” Mastilović said.

He expressed pride that “the Russian Historical Society has recognized the Institute as a strategic partner in the Western Balkans and that this collaboration has been so successful.”

An academic conference titled “Challenges of Contemporary Historiography: Methodological Problems, Revisionism, Falsifications, and Myths” is being held today in Pale to mark the Day and Patron Saint of the Institute of Historical Sciences of the University of East Sarajevo, Saint King Milutin.

The conference is organized by the Institute of Historical Sciences of the University of East Sarajevo and the Russian Historical Society, under the auspices of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.

Eminent historians from Republika Srpska, Serbia, and the Russian Federation are participating in the conference.
