The partnership between Hungary and Republika Srpska is a testament to great success, stated Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó at the “Invest Srpska” conference on Jahorina.
“Through this collaboration, we have seen €26 million invested in agricultural cooperation, delivering 4,700 agricultural machines,” Szijjártó said.
He emphasized that values such as peace and patriotism, upheld by both Hungary and Republika Srpska, resonate with the election of Donald Trump, whose leadership signals a pathway to peace and respect in international relations.
According to Szijjártó, the recent shift in American leadership could mean a new approach in Europe’s policies towards Srpska, replacing sanctions and threats with dialogue and respect. He added that Europe should engage with Srpska from a stance of respect rather than sanctions.
“The new reality with Trump’s return to the White House renews hope for peace, particularly in Ukraine,” said President Dodik, adding that the shift in American leadership might encourage Brussels to change its approach to Srpska and the Western Balkans.
Both Dodik and Szijjártó agreed that Hungary has been a consistent ally in Srpska’s development, particularly in economic cooperation. Dodik underscored that Srpska, like Hungary, remains committed to policies of mutual cooperation and balanced relations with both East and West.
Despite “quiet” sanctions promoted by the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo, Republika Srpska has maintained the lowest budget deficit, remains financially stable, and consistently meets its internal and external obligations. The values of family, with “woman as mother, and man as father,” are priorities Hungary and Srpska believe will gain renewed support with the recent political changes in the United States.
