The Olympic Center “Jahorina” has become a member of the Union of Olympic Cities Council, announced the director of the Olympic Center, Dejan Ljevnaić.
Ljevnaić highlighted that this is the greatest recognition the Olympic Center has ever received on the international stage, adding that this membership further solidifies its position in the global Olympic community, according to a statement from the Olympic Center.
The Olympic Center, alongside representatives from the city of Sarajevo, represents Bosnia and Herzegovina as the hosts of the 1984 Winter Olympics at the prestigious “Smart Cities & Sport” summit in Lausanne, marking 30 years of Lausanne as an Olympic capital.
At the summit, which concludes today, a proposal was discussed for Bosnia and Herzegovina to host the 2032 Youth Olympic Games, continuing the legacy of Olympic heritage.
This possibility had already been discussed with Aurelia Lemozi, a representative from the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, during her visit to Jahorina and Bosnia and Herzegovina in February.
The “Smart Cities & Sport” summit gathers representatives from Olympic host cities, international sports federations, and experts to exchange experiences on linking sports with urban settings, enhancing sports technologies, and creating lasting legacies through sporting events.
This year’s program particularly emphasized topics such as innovative sports and sustainable development, along with the inaugural “Smart Cities & Sport” awards, which recognize city projects that use sports as a driver for positive change.
The Olympic Center “Jahorina” emphasizes the special significance of this event, which not only nurtures Olympic values but also connects all participants with unbreakable ties, creating opportunities for future sports projects and initiatives.
