Exhibition of archival documents “Banja Luka 1918”

An exhibition of archival documents titled “Banja Luka 1918” has opened in the exhibition space of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Banja Luka.

The exhibition was organized to mark the centenary of the dissolution of the Habsburg Monarchy, the entry of the Serbian army into Banja Luka, and the creation of the new state, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes.

The exhibition was curated by Vladan Vukliš, Bojan Stojnić, and Borivoje Milošević.

Featuring numerous photographs, official documents, reports, maps, postcards, and newspapers, the exhibition traces Banja Luka’s history from its fall under Habsburg rule to its eventual integration into the Kingdom of Serbia and the establishment and consolidation of new government institutions within the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes.

Special emphasis is placed on the years of World War I and Austro-Hungarian repression against the Serbian political and national community, with 1918 highlighted as the year of liberation and unification.

The “Banja Luka 1918” exhibition was first presented in 2018 to commemorate one hundred years since the city’s liberation in World War I. Through documents and photographs, it follows life in Banja Luka from the beginning to the end of the war, focusing on the arrival of the liberators in 1918.

The exhibition is hosted by the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Banja Luka.
