Vranješ: Republika Srpska can expect reduced pressure and relaxation of totalitarian constraints

Bosnian ambassador to Serbia, Aleksandar Vranješ, stated for Srna that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has defeated an entire liberal totalitarian establishment in America, which has a stained reputation internationally.

“The fact that he defeated them, that during his first term he didn’t expand wars, and that he was a man of negotiations and peace, suggests we can expect President Trump to attempt to stabilize and cool down the heated global atmosphere. Of course, we shouldn’t expect any radical shifts, especially not in the Balkans—that would be unrealistic,” Vranješ assessed.

He noted that the world witnessed Trump’s historic victory last night, an unprecedented event in American history.

Ambassador Vranješ recalled that during his first term, Trump faced coordinated resistance and blockage from the American deep state, big capital, mainstream liberal media, and traditional American allies.

According to him, the media in the U.S. served as Trump’s primary political opponent, constantly spreading disinformation, fake news, demonization, and challenging him both politically and personally.

During the next election cycle, Vranješ explained, Trump was allegedly cheated out of victory and then, under Joe Biden’s administration, was demonized, “canceled,” banned from social media, and subjected to numerous charges aimed at permanently silencing and disqualifying him.

Vranješ highlighted that in such an atmosphere, Donald Trump is making a triumphant return, rallying freedom-minded and vocal journalists in a fight against American liberal “woke” fanatics, surviving two assassination attempts, and gaining support from Elon Musk, the owner of “X” (formerly Twitter), which has become a platform for free speech in the U.S. in a general “cancel” environment. Despite major attacks, Trump decisively defeated not only the Democrats and Kamala Harris but an entire powerful group of liberal fanatics from the worlds of politics and entertainment.

This, Vranješ emphasized, is what makes Trump’s victory historic.

Regarding the stance of Trump’s administration toward Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vranješ stated that it can be gauged through certain smaller actions, particularly regarding the term of the new U.S. ambassador to BiH—whether Douglas Jones will remain Biden’s nominee or if someone else will be appointed.

“There are a few possible outcomes. First, we’ll see if the current Senate confirms Jones as the U.S. ambassador to BiH or if it defers to the new Republican-majority Senate. If confirmed by the current Senate, the question will be whether Trump will dismiss him once he takes office.

If Trump doesn’t intervene and leaves Jones as Biden’s ambassador in a less critical country, the next question is how much support he will have from the new administration. Jones might remain ambassador to BiH but, unlike [Michael] Murphy, may be relatively passive and quiet, without authorization for radical actions like his predecessor,” Vranješ explained.

He added that an alternative to this scenario could involve a completely new U.S. ambassador to BiH appointed by Trump, who may either follow in Murphy’s footsteps or base his mandate on respecting BiH’s Dayton structure and the rights of local political representatives to make independent and democratic decisions.

“Whichever of these options materializes, we’ll analyze it and assess whether there have been any changes. Unfortunately, we can’t expect much more than that. Realistically, the greatest benefit Republika Srpska might anticipate from Trump’s new term is a reduction in existing pressures, a shift in focus away from BiH, and a relaxation of their totalitarian restraints, such as sanctions and threats, but not any significant policy shifts,” concluded Bosnian ambassador to Serbia, Aleksandar Vranješ.
