The “Višnjić Days” event will commence tomorrow in Bijeljina, with a particular focus on selecting the best literary work and hosting recitation and oration competitions for elementary and high school students, as well as university students.
According to the City Administration of Bijeljina, one of the organizers of the 31st “Višnjić Days,” this event aims to honor Filip Višnjić, the “Serbian Homer,” who, alongside Vuk Karadžić, celebrated Serbian culture across Europe.
The festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the ceremonial raising of the “Višnjić Days” flag in front of the Filip Višnjić National Library.
After the official opening, the program will continue with a book promotion of Ljudovanje by Tihomir Nestorović at the Library, followed by a poetry and gusle night dedicated to Višnjić at the Semberija Cultural Center.
On the second day of the event, Tuesday, November 5, the program will start in Međaši, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial dedicated to Filip Višnjić and a poetry hour.
The Semberija Museum will host members of the “Prosvjeta” Serbian Cultural and Educational Society from Srebrenica, who will present their work. The Filip Višnjić National Library will host a book presentation of Photographic Records by Zdravko Zgonjanin, followed by a concert by the Banja Luka City Tamburitza Orchestra.
On November 6, the Library will present the program of the Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Republika Srpska and the magazine Serbian Vila, while the Semberija Museum will open an exhibition titled The Tradition of Fairs in Serbia.
On November 7, a round table discussion on children’s author Luka Milovanov and an evening of contemporary Russian poetry will be held at the Semberija Cultural Center Gallery.
That same evening, the Semberija City Theatre will perform the play The Singing and Silence of Sofka Nikolić at the Cultural Center.
On the final day of the event, November 8, a liturgy and a memorial service for Filip Višnjić will be held in all Orthodox churches in Semberija.
The Semberija Museum will showcase the publishing activities of the Institute of Historical Sciences of the University of East Sarajevo, followed by a ceremonial academy at the Semberija Cultural Center.
“Višnjić Days” will conclude on November 8.
