The main conclusions of the BRICS Summit in Kazan highlight a shift away from Western hegemony, the introduction of a financial system independent of the dollar, the strengthening of the New Development Bank, and an open invitation to all countries with similar goals.
This summit drew global attention, evidenced by the over 2,000 journalists from 60 countries covering the event. Among them was a team from Radio-Television of Republika Srpska, capturing this pivotal moment in Russia’s international diplomacy.
Unlike the bans and sanctions imposed on Russian media by the West, this historic foreign policy event in Kazan was accessible to all media, including Western journalists, showcasing Russia’s openness. Delegations from 36 countries participated, with both Eastern and Western nations closely following the proceedings and conclusions.
British politician and author George Galloway, speaking to RTV Republika Srpska, remarked that Kazan is shaping a “new world.”
“I am here because half the world is here, and the future of my successors will depend on the decisions made here. I grew up in the Western world, but Kazan 2024 is building the architecture of the future. A new world rejecting U.S. and NATO hegemony is being born. We live in a time when the UN is powerless, which is why Guterres is here, as he knows this is the embryo of a new UN,” Galloway explained.
China sent a record-large delegation, including nearly 200 journalists, reflecting the country’s commitment to the summit’s goals.
“This is a very special moment, and it’s exciting to be a part of it. We heard directly from President Xi about China’s pragmatic plans for BRICS, focused on peace, innovation, green energy development, security, and people-to-people exchange,” said Huang Fei, a journalist from China Global Television Network.
Republika Srpska also participated as an observer, gaining valuable contacts with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and representatives of member nations. The most significant meeting was between Presidents Milorad Dodik and Vladimir Putin.
“This summit is a great victory for Russia globally and a diplomatic victory for Milorad Dodik in the Balkans, the world, and Russia. He and Putin share not only good working relations but also a friendship. When a Russian and a Serb are friends, they can accomplish many good things,” noted Yevgeny Osenkov, director of the Russian-Balkan Dialogue Center.
The Kazan Summit contrasted sharply with notions of isolation, sanctions, and pressure, underscored by the presence of Western media, known for their anti-Russian stances. Western journalists worked freely alongside others, illustrating a double standard.
“In this room, you have three British television stations working freely, while Russian media cannot operate in Britain. This is a clear example of double standards, making this event remarkable,” added Galloway.
The summit’s messages of peace, tolerance, and equal freedoms for nations, large and small, echoed strongly. Though BRICS expansion was a central theme, observer countries like Republika Srpska and Serbia received key messages: non-member nations can also benefit from BRICS collaboration.
The New Development Bank will expand investment opportunities to countries outside BRICS, underscoring Russia’s inclusive approach. As President Putin emphasized in the plenary session, Russia extended an invitation to all friendly nations, opening paths to cooperation beyond formal membership.
