Tegeltija: The trial of President Dodik is a political project

The trial of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, is a political project, and its ultimate goal is to remove him from the public scene, said lawyer Milan Tegeltija while guesting on RTRS morning program.

“The court proceedings must be fair and legal. You have judge Sena Uzunović presiding over this case, and she should have recused herself from the process because she has demonstrated a high level of intolerance and aversion toward the President of Republika Srpska. She has a declared political stance against Dodik, which she confirmed in court. She is supposed to lead the proceedings, not engage in debate with the defendants. There should be no aggression. It is obvious that she is working under significant pressure; she has even admitted that the proceedings are not free from external influences,” emphasized Tegeltija.

Tegeltija stressed that Dodik is not being prosecuted for violating the law, stealing, or running a red light but because he has respected the Constitution of Republika Srpska and has honored the institutions of Srpska as its president.

“Dodik is simply too strong a political figure both in Srpska and in BiH, and that is why they are trying to remove him from the public scene. Seventy-five percent of the citizens of Republika Srpska support his policies, as evidenced by the recent elections,” Tegeltija stated.

He also commented on the security of the President of Srpska in the Court of BiH.

“The security of the President of Srpska is endangered every day, including in the Court of BiH. This is not spontaneous; there are no coincidences in this process. Sarajevo has harbored this hatred for three decades. You can see the competition among them to attack Dodik in the most derogatory way, and at the same time, attack Republika Srpska. That is their defining characteristic; they demonize Dodik daily, and because of that, the atmosphere in federal Sarajevo is dangerous for any official from Srpska,” Tegeltija emphasized.

Today, the trial of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and the acting director of the Official Gazette of Republika Srpska, Miloš Lukić, will continue in the Court of BiH, where the defense of the second defendant will present material evidence.

At the last hearing, the defense of President Dodik requested the recusal of presiding judge Sena Uzunović because she did not allow clarification on whether the letter regarding the prosecution’s evidence had been delivered to the defense.

Three days after submitting the request, the criminal council of the Court of BiH did not accept the defense’s request for the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.
