Karan: Russia is one of the greatest allies and friends of Srpska

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, stated that the Russian Federation is one of the greatest allies and friends of Srpska and expressed gratitude for further enhancement of joint cooperation in the field of security.

  • From the perspective of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, we want to express our gratitude for being in Moscow today, in this large and safe city, to explore all possibilities for maintaining full security in such a populous city, Karan said during his visit to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Russian capital.

He emphasized that this is important for Republika Srpska, which is small compared to Moscow, but Srpska is implementing the same processes to ensure that all cities and Republika Srpska are safe.

Karan reminded that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska has had a signed Memorandum of Cooperation with the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Moscow since 2015.

He noted that mutual cooperation, which has been successful over the past decade, has been marked by numerous visits and exchanges of experiences.

  • Today, I believe that under special and general circumstances, not only regarding security, we can again demonstrate our full friendship and exchange a large number of experiences within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Karan emphasized.

Karan mentioned that he had the opportunity to see the great capabilities of the Russian Federation in the production of equipment and armaments.

He pointed out that from the standpoint of crime prevention, Moscow is a safe city today, as is Srpska for all its citizens.

  • The time has come to enhance the Memorandum of Cooperation and elevate it to a much higher level, considering the strength of our friendship and the movement of criminality, Karan stated.

Karan noted that special spaces are being created for mutual cooperation regarding high-tech crime, especially concerning the abuse and exploitation of children for sexual purposes and pornography, as well as any other forms of high-tech crime and internet fraud.

  • The progress of the Russian Federation and the city of Moscow in areas such as forensics, criminal investigations, and DNA analysis, as well as the development of information technologies in solving traffic accidents, is particularly important. Significant video surveillance has contributed to a drastic reduction in crime rates in Moscow and Srpska, Karan explained.

He stated that Srpska has similar “Safe City” projects that, in collaboration with local communities and citizens, ensure a safe life, emphasizing that this has helped the police reduce the volume of criminal acts and increase the detection rate of these acts by up to 30 percent.

Karan mentioned the potential for cooperation in specialized police units, such as mounted and canine units, stressing that the fight against terrorism and extremism is a particularly important issue that everyone is addressing, as well as the exchange of information.

The previous cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Moscow has been assessed as good, and it should be intensified in terms of training, experience exchange, practices, and equipment, it was concluded today in Moscow.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Srpska announced that the meeting was attended by, in addition to Karan, the Director of the Police of Republika Srpska, Siniša Kostrešević, as well as the leadership of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Moscow.
