Karateka Marina Kurteš becomes world vice-champion

Marina Kurteš, a karateka from Istočno Sarajevo, has become the world vice-champion in the U21 under 68kg category.

In the final of the World Championship held in Venice, Kurteš was defeated 4-1 by the two-time consecutive world champion, Talia Sombé from France.

This is a tremendous achievement for Marina and her Karate Club Slavija. She earned her silver medal by defeating Caitlin Kelly from the Republic of Ireland 3-0, Maren Piakuadio Juncoso from Venezuela 2-1, and Volha Ramaniuk from Belarus 1-0.

In the fourth match, Kurteš triumphed over Majar Zeinelabdin from Egypt with a 6-5 victory, securing her place in the semifinals. In the semifinal, she faced Italy’s Ana Pia Desiderio, and the Italian competitor had no solution for the highly motivated Marina, who won the match and advanced to the final.
