All terrorist activities in Europe over the past 15 years have been linked in some way to the radical Islamist structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) through weapons, explosives, perpetrators, or networks, stated the director of the Centre for Socio-Political Research of Republika Srpska, Dušan Pavlović.
Pavlović emphasized that the U.S., Britain, and some other countries tolerate their presence because there is an agreement that Islamist structures in BiH will remain obedient to Euro-Atlantic interests while pursuing their own Islamist goals locally.
He noted that the process of radicalizing Muslims in BiH, led by the Muslim Brotherhood, has been ongoing for nearly a century, warning that radical Islamist structures in BiH have not abandoned their aim of creating a Muslim state in Europe.
“Radical Islamist structures in BiH, namely the ‘Muslim Brotherhood,’ that is, SDA (Party of Democratic Action), have not given up on creating a Muslim state in Europe, specifically in BiH. Just as they collaborated with Pavelić and Hitler during World War II and NATO in 1990, today they continue to undermine all institutions in BiH, including the Constitution, in order to establish an Islamic state,” said Pavlović.
He explained that the connection between the “Muslim Brotherhood” and radical Islam in BiH, as well as with Hamas, is not coincidental or driven by current politics. Its roots trace back to World War II when Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Al-Husseini, in collaboration with Himmler and the Muslim Brotherhood in the area of present-day BiH, formed the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar. Part of this radical structure since 1943 included Alija Izetbegović, the first president of the Republic of BiH during the civil war. This structure survived communism and went on to form the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and its military wings, the Patriotic League and the Green Berets, which later became the Army of BiH. Thus, the global pan-Islamist organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, had its own army in Europe during the war in BiH—the so-called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Pavlović added that understanding this is crucial to grasp why the Serbs in BiH had to establish Republika Srpska and why its leadership works tirelessly to preserve and strengthen Srpska’s constitutional position within the Dayton framework.
He mentioned that the Centre has prepared a publication and documentary movie titled “The Genesis of the Muslim Brotherhood and Radical Islam in BiH” available in five languages: Serb, English, French, Russian, and German.
Pavlović also stated that significant efforts are being made to explain Republika Srpska’s positions to interested partners and allies, as, unfortunately, the interests of radical Islamist structures in BiH, specifically the SDA, align with Euro-Atlantic interests, both aiming for the destabilization and dissolution of Republika Srpska as defined by the Dayton Peace Agreement.
This week, the Israeli newspaper “Jerusalem Post” published an article stating that the EU and U.S., who in practice govern BiH, are knowingly ignoring the process of religious radicalization of Bosniaks, which is deeply rooted, especially among the youth.
The article recalls the case of Emrah Ibrahimović, an 18-year-old Austrian of BiH descent, who was killed in Munich after firing several shots near the Israeli consulate. It raises the question of whether intensified anti-Israel rhetoric in BiH influenced Ibrahimović, the Munich terrorist.
The article also highlights that the Bosniak population has been under the significant influence of radical Islamist elements, including the “Muslim Brotherhood,” Iran, and Turkey, ever since the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, the bloody civil war in BiH, and the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement that ended the war in 1995.
